The Welsh Government has published information about its plans for COVID and flu vaccinations this autumn.

If you are eligible for a COVID-19 autumn booster you should receive your invitation by the end of November. If you are eligible for the flu vaccine you should receive your invitation by the end of December.

Information about COVID-19 Vaccination

Vaccination plans here in Wales, and across the rest of the UK, are guided by the latest scientific advice from the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation).

Based on expert guidance from the JCVI, this autumn’s COVID-19 booster will be offered to you if:

  • You are a resident of a care home for older adults
  • You work in a care home for older adults
  • You are a frontline health or social care worker
  • You are aged 50 or over
  • You are aged 5 to 49 years and have a clinical condition that puts you at greater risk of serious illness from COVID
  • You are aged 5 to 49 years and you live with someone with a compromised immune system
  • You are a carer aged between 16 and 49

If you fall into one of these groups, and you have completed your primary course of COVID-19 vaccination, you should receive your invitation by the end of November.

You can find out more about the autumn booster – including more information about eligibility - from the Powys Teaching Health Board website at pthb.nhs.wales/autumn-booster. The health board will be updating their website regularly through the autumn with the latest information, including what to do if you don’t receive an invitation.

Remember that if you have not yet had your first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine there is still time. Find out more about first and second dose drop-in clinics at pthb.nhs.wales/covid-vaccine

Information about Seasonal Flu Vaccination

Based on expert guidance from the JCVI, this year’s seasonal flu vaccine will be offered to you if:

  • You are pregnant
  • You are aged 50 or over
  • You have a long term health condition that puts you at increased risk from flu
  • You live in a care home
  • You are a child from aged two (age on 31 August 2021) to School Year 11
  • You are a carer, or you are working directly with patients/clients in health or social care
  • You live with someone who has a compromised immune system

If you fall into one of these groups, and you have completed your primary course of COVID-19 vaccination, you should receive your invitation by the end of November.

More information about this year’s seasonal flu vaccine is available from Public Health Wales at phw.nhs.wales/fluvaccine

Please don’t contact your health board or GP practice just yet about your COVID or flu vaccine.
