Aberbechan Bridge to be Re-opened

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, said he is looking forward to two-way traffic flowing again on the recently repaired Aberbechan Bridge, for the first time in over 18 months.

Job losses at Co-operative Food

Commenting on the announcement of job losses at Co-operative Food in Newtown and Welshpool, Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George said: "This is devastating news for everyone affected and I am extremely saddened to hear the confirmation of these store closures. "While it’s desperately sad to lose another retail store, my main concern is for jobs and I hope the employees currently working at both stores will be able to secure new jobs locally, so that valuable retail skills will not be lost.

Statement from Russell George AM regarding April Jones

While Mark Bridger has been formally charged with the murder of April Jones, the police are still appealing to the public for information which may help them find April.They are looking to trace the movements of Mark Bridger between 6.30pm on Monday and 3.30pm on Tuesday and any sightings of him between these times.They also need information regarding the movements of the blue Land Rover Discovery registration L503 MEP between these times.If you have any information, no matter how small, about these two key points, then could you please ring Dyfed Powys Police on the dedicated hotline number 0300 2000 333, as it may prove to be vital in finding April Jones.


Police are increasingly concerned for the whereabouts of April Jones, a five year girl from Machynlleth.April  was last seen playing with her friend on their bikes near to garages in the town at around 19:30hrs yesterday evening.April was seen getting into a light coloured van or van sized vehicle which then drove off.Police have asked if anyone has any information about this incident to call them on 101.

Coleg Powys – Neath Port Talbot Colleges Merger

AM welcomes Broadband Report

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, has welcomed the publication this week of the report by the House of Commons’ Welsh Affairs Committee into Broadband services in Wales and said that the eradication of broadband not-spots and slow-spots in Wales must be a priority for both the Welsh and UK Governments.

Planning shake-up ‘needs careful balance'

Commenting on the Environment Minister’s plans to shake-up the planning system in favour of the economy – and at the expense of the environment – Shadow Minister for Environment Russell George AM said: "Putting the economy at the very top of the agenda is the right move and I am glad the Welsh Government has finally followed the UK Government’s example.However, this obviously requires careful balance and the Minister must not ride roughshod over sustainable development."
